Historic and Cultural Preservation: The Education Center will include information about the formation of the Delta. The history of human occupation and management from Native Peoples to arrival of migrants from Mexico, Europe, and the United States will be explored. The Education Center will describe the unique role the Delta played in the history of the State of California. From its Mexican heritage and the gold rush, the creation of a new state, to modern water transportation systems, natural gas extraction, agriculture, regional transportation, and current recreation. Sites of cultural preservation in Delta communities, such as Isleton and Locke, will be highlighted. Long term plans include a hands-on display of Native People’s housing outside the Center.
